Swami Shankaratilakananda is the title and vedic name of Master Javier Plazas. Swamiji was born in the city of Granada, Spain. He is the direct disciple of His Holiness Swâmî Tilak Paramahamsa. In 1974, at a very young age he was initiated in Yoga at the school of Shri Pujya Swâmî Sivananda Sarasvati, by the latter’s disciple Shri Pujya Swami Vishnudevananda Sarasvati from whom he received Divya Nama, Ishta Mantra and Naishtika Brahmacharya Diksha, and finally embraced the Vedic Dharma. Swamiji was a student and teacher in Canada, United States and Spain, at the International Sivananda Yoga Centres until 1978.
Swamiji was very properly educated by Upacharyas, Acharyas, Upagurus and Gurudeva. He was very faithful to his Masters, obeying and serving all of them. With them he studied the profound knowledge of spirituality and religiousness of the Vedic Dharma through Sanskrit, the Sacred Vedic Scriptures, Vedic Theology, Puranic Symbology, Sacred History, Advaita Vedanta Philosophy, Patanjala Ashtanga Yoga, the Agamas and the Nigamas, Kaulachara Tantra, Vyayam Vidya, Nada Yoga, Ayurveda and Ayursiddha, Art of Fight and Strategy, Medical Psychology applied to Religion and Psychosomatics.
In 1976 he met His Holiness Pujya Gurudeva Shrî Swami Tilak who visited Granada on a world tour promoting the Vedic Dharma, but it wasn’t until 1978 that Swami ji travelled to India and took refuge at his feet requesting him to be accepted as his disciple. Pujya Gurudeva Swami Tilak accepted him as Shisya and also granted him the condition of Swami after embracing the sacred Sannyasa Diksha. Swami ji served Gurudeva collaborating with him in the mission of Spreading the Vedic Dharma in the west until Shrî Swami Tilak ji left his physical body in 1984 in Spain. Shrî Swâmî ji was by the side of his Venerable Master until, his head on his arms, he took his last breath. Since then, he has always been at the head of the mission to preserve the work that Swâmî Tilak started and founded with total devotion, since Shrî Swami ji deeply loved his Venerable Master to whom he dedicated his youth and to whom he keeps on giving his whole life. Pujya Gurudeva Shrî Swâmî Tilak Paramahamsa was disciple of the Very Venerable Master, Baba Bajaranga Dasi ji whose sacred ashes are guarded in the Vedic Temple of Granada, Spain.
